I'm really writing to clarify to Daniel that in "the services", US Navy included of course, you have an earned RANK. His rank was probably Commander when he was designing the first submarines, but his last "job" was as Construction Superintendent. He was promoted along the way, of course, retiring later at the rank of Captain. This rank surfaced again at UMASS and "stuck" as he first pursued floating offshore wind systems. m
